Are you interested in volunteering? Then come and meet Horsham Volunteer Centre and some of the organisations who are looking for volunteers on Thursday 7th June in The Carfax, Horsham, from 11am to 3pm. Joining us on the day will be: Care for the Wild, St Catherine’s Hospice, The Red Cross and Horsham Matters.

Please note the Volunteer Centre will be closed on Friday 8th May.

Street Collection Volunteer for Winston’s Wish

Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity and the largest provider of services to bereaved children, young people and their families in the U.K.

Volunteers are needed to help with a bucket collection in Horsham town centre in aid of Winston’s Wish on Saturday 2nd June 2012. Please spare a couple of hours anytime between 9am and 5pm so they can support more bereaved children.

Collection Box Co-ordinator for the Spinal Injuries Association

The Spinal Injuries Assocation is the leading national charity for spinal cord injured people.

A volunteer is sought to assist with management of their collection boxes in the local area. The volunteer will help SIA to recruit local businesses to display collection boxes on their counter top, distribute the boxes, collect filled boxes and keep in touch with the businesses. Based from home, use of a car would be helpful for this role and a commitment of about 4 hours per week.

Maze Garden Group Volunteer – Strawford Day Centre

The Strawford Day Centre provides a day care service for adults with learning difficulties and organises lots of varied activities for its members.

Volunteers are sought to help support the Maze Garden group carry out various tasks such as pruning the hedges, sweeping, litter picking in the Horsham Park Maze Garden on a Wednesday between 10am and 2pm.

Horsham Matters aim to help those in the community, particularly enabling the previously homeless to furnish their accommodation by collecting unwanted furniture, white goods and household items and helping people with house clearance or ‘down sizing’.

Ebay Administrator needed to help manage the Ebay shop and provide general help and support for the Warehouse.

Loft Clearance Advisor needed to help with a pilot loft clearing service for older, vulnerable people, who qualify for free loft insulation but have no family or friend who can help prepare the loft. The volunteer will help the client to sort through their possessions and decide what to keep and what to donate to charity or dispose of.

Administrator for St Catherines Hospice

Volunteers are needed in the fundraising department to assist the New Horizons Appeal Co-ordinator. The role will involve manual book entry for incoming cheques, sending out post/tickets and some data inputting. Approx 3 hours per week on a Monday or Thursday morning.

Care for the Wild, the wildlife and conservation charity based in Horsham, are looking for volunteers for the following roles:

Calligraphor – to help update the ‘In memorial’ book; Gardening Volunteers – to help create and maintain a wildlife friendly garden; General Handy Person – to carry out small routine maintenance tasks around the offices in Horsham; Show and Events Volunteers – to help run the charity’s sales stands at local shows and events; Telephone Campaign Volunteers – volunteers with confident telephone skills are needed to telephone the charity’s supporters and ask them to Gift Aid their donations.

Their mission is to ensure that accurate, impartial and neutral information is provided to those who need it most, so that they can make informed decisions about their health and seek advice and further help.

Trustees are sought to join the existing board ideally with skills and experience in the following areas: HIV/AIDS knowledge, Fundraising, HR and Personnel, IT, marketing, PR and communications.

Administrator for Sussex Pathways

Sussex Pathways is a social mentoring scheme which aims to empower offenders to make positive life choices, by supporting their resettlement in the community.

Volunteers are needed to help provide administrative support for the service which will involve dealing with email/telephone enquiries, arranging meetings and assisting with collating data. The commitment would be approx. 3 to 4 mornings or afternoons per week or could be shared with another volunteer. Some working from home would be required.
